At Catch+Release, we’ve introduced a new way for you to review People + Properties on each shot. This helps us provide more accurate Instant Estimates (time to clear and license price) and ensures we’re clearing only what your project requires.

Why this matters

  • Faster and more accurate estimates – Your upfront estimate reflects the actual IPs (intellectual properties) tied to the shot.

  • Control over clearance – You decide which People + Properties we clear based on your project needs.

  • Transparency – You’ll see when estimates change as we gather more information.

When you’ll be asked to review People + Properties

You’ll see People + Properties at two key points:

  1. Before Clearance (Instant Estimate step) – to help generate a more accurate estimate.

  2. When Clearance Begins – to confirm what we should clear.

Step 1: Add details for an Instant Estimate

When you request an estimate, you’ll be prompted to:

  1. Select or create a Usage

  2. Add a timecode for videos

  3. Review People + Properties

    • If IPs have already been identified:

      • You’ll see a count of included People + Properties.

      • You can deselect any you don’t need cleared. (Note: The copyright owner cannot be deselected.)

    • If IPs haven’t been identified yet:

      • You’ll see a message letting you know we’re still assessing. We’ll update your estimate once complete.

Your Instant Estimate widget will automatically update once IPs are confirmed, narrowing the estimated price and time to clear.

Step 2: Review at Checkout (Clearance Start)

When you add a shot to your cart and begin clearance, you’ll be prompted again to review People + Properties:

  • For single shots, you’ll always see the People + Properties.

  • For bulk adds, you’ll only see this step if IPs have already been identified (to keep the flow quick).

Step 3: Notifications if IPs are added later

If clearance begins before IPs have been identified, you’ll get an email notification once they’ve been added. You can then:

  • Review and adjust which People + Properties you want cleared.

  • Update your selections if needed.

Any changes you make (for example, excluding an IP we had included) will notify our Clearance team so we can adjust accordingly.

Best Practices

  • Always double-check People + Properties before checkout to avoid clearing unnecessary IPs.

  • Keep notifications turned on so you don’t miss estimate updates.

  • If you’re unsure whether to include or exclude an IP, reach out to your Customer Success Manager for guidance.
