A Usage tells Catch+Release how you plan to use content in your campaign, including where it will run, how long it will run, and whether exclusivity is needed. Creating a Usage is the first step in requesting clearance and seeing estimated pricing.

Step 1: Open your project

Log in at catchandrelease.com and navigate to the project you'd like to work on.

Step 2: Choose how to start

You can create a Usage from two places:

  • From the shot detail page – Click 'Add details for estimate'

  • From the Usages tab – Click 'New usage' button to create a Usage in advance, before selecting any shots

Step 3: Complete the Usage Setup screen

This screen collects basic licensing info:

  • Duration Term

  • Exclusivity (optional)

  • Estimated Number of Shots

  • Rights Package (e.g. Digital + Paid Social, All TV)

💡 As you fill this out, you’ll see a real-time cost estimate. You can adjust selections to compare options.

Step 4: Add project and usage details

These details help us explain your campaign to creators:

  • Project pitch for creators (required)

    1. This is your main touchpoint with creators to share your project opportunity and big-picture vision. Help them see what they’re part of and how their content fits in.

    2. A strong pitch boosts your chances of getting permission to use their video or photo. Some creators know licensing well—others may be new to it—so get them excited!

    3. Tell us who the project is for, what kind of campaign it is, the creative idea, and how the content will be used.

    4. Enter a few key details and click the '✨ Generate pitch' button to draft a Creator Pitch.

  • Example:
Acme Co. is producing a social media campaign featuring real customers using their smart home tech. The video will be a montage of shots showing how the product fits into everyday life.

  • Clearance Deadline – By when you need Catch+Release to have the shot cleared

  • License Start Date – When you plan to begin using the content.

    • You can adjust this later if your date changes.

  • Licensee Name – Enter the brand licensing the content (and agency, if needed)

Step 5: Review and save

Review your inputs, then click Save. The Usage will be available to apply to any shots in your project when you want to get an estimate or are ready to request clearance.
