A Usage tells Catch+Release how you plan to use content in your campaign, including where it will run, how long it will run, and whether exclusivity is needed. Creating a Usage is the first step in requesting clearance and seeing estimated pricing.

Step 1: Open your project

Log in at catchandrelease.com and navigate to the project you'd like to work on.

Step 2: Choose how to start

You can create a Usage from three places:

  • From a shot thumbnail – Hover and click the cart icon

  • From the shot detail page – Click Start Clearance

  • From the Usages tab – Create a Usage in advance, before selecting any shots

Step 3: Complete the Usage Setup screen

This screen collects basic licensing info:

  • Rights Package (e.g. Digital + Paid Social, All TV)

  • Usage Duration

  • Exclusivity (optional)

  • Estimated Number of Shots

πŸ’‘ As you fill this out, you’ll see a real-time cost estimate. You can adjust selections to compare options.

Step 4: Add project and usage details

These details help us explain your campaign to creators:

  • Project Description (required)
Tell us who the project is for, what kind of campaign it is, the creative idea, and how the content will be used.
You can also include style notes (e.g. β€œfast edits,” β€œno audio,” etc.).

    Example:
Acme Co. is producing a social media campaign featuring real customers using their smart home tech. The video will be a montage of shots showing how the product fits into everyday life.

  • Clearance Deadline – When you need the shot cleared by

  • License Start Date – When you plan to begin using the content

  • Licensee Name – Enter the brand licensing the content (and agency, if needed)

Step 5: Review and save

Review your inputs, then click Save. The Usage will be available to apply to any shots in your project when you're ready to request clearance.
