When you license content through Catch+Release, our platform and team work together to deliver a smooth, transparent process with clear pricing tied to your usage needs. This article explains how license pricing is determined and what to expect during the clearance process.

What factors affect the license price?

License fees are based on how you plan to use the content. When you request clearance for a shot, you'll be prompted to define usage details such as:

  • Media type (e.g. paid social, broadcast, print)

  • Term length (how long the content will run)

  • Territory (where it will be used)

  • Exclusivity (if you want to be the only brand using the shot)

Each of these choices helps shape the offer we present to the creator or rights holder. If a shot includes multiple people or IP elements, those can also affect the final price.

When will I see the price?

After you submit a shot for clearance, our team immediately begins contacting rights holders and evaluating IP requirements. You'll see a license estimate appear shortly after submission. This estimate will update dynamically as we:

  • Hear back from rights holders

  • Negotiate permission and rates

  • Resolve any complex or high-profile IP

Once all permissions are secured, we publish a final license price and notify you that the shot is ready to license.

You’re never committed until you choose to purchase. We provide the full picture first.

What does Catch+Release handle?

Our platform and team reduce your legal and operational risk by managing the licensing process end-to-end:

  • Creator & rights holder outreach – We contact every necessary party on your behalf.

  • Negotiation & pricing – We work to secure the best price possible based on your usage.

  • Payment handling – Once you purchase the license, we manage all payouts directly.

  • Documentation & protection – You receive a license with clearly defined rights, protecting your brand from future claims.

How do I track pricing?

You can track progress in real time via the Shot Tracker, where you’ll find:

  • A dynamic license price estimate

  • Clearance progress updates

  • Licensability score

  • Time-to-clear estimates

The Shot Tracker lives within your project view and helps you stay informed at every stage.
